Peter Velikov is a graphic artist born in
1975 in Bulgaria where he still lives. Despite his young
age he is already a world class master in the style and technique
of art he makes. He specializes in etching, aquatint and dry point,
and it is easy to see that he masters these techniques perfectly.
His pictures are like a dream – surrealistic and full of fantasy
and detail. Typical elements in a “Velikov” are the airy feel of
flying objects, the presence of fish, sea horses and seashells,
half-human figures from mythology and the safety of a birds nest.
The artist already produces art of masterly proportions and to buy
a Velikov is a real investment The tradition of fantastic printmaking in
central Europe will certainly be strengthened by the introduction
of Peter Velikov on the art scene. |

Stefania Yanakieva, Art critic on Velikov: “Peter Velikov is one of the talented
and perspective young Bulgarian artists working in the field of
print art. His works are remarkable for their delicate and specific
synthesis of forms as well as for the philosophical approach of
the artist when reflecting the existence. They are enriched by different
cultures, mythological and historical layers. The artist cleverly
combines in his compositions the human figure with architectural
forms and flora and fauna motives. This is a complicated and in
the same time exciting form of contact with the public.”
“Peter Velikov prefers the expressive
strength of the classical print media such as etching, aquatint
and dry point. He has mastered this media perfectly. In his prints
the unusual airy notions and artistic interpretations are elegantly
re-created with rich nuances of white, grey and black. The masterly,
free and poetic line is the artist’s main means of expression. Under
the surface of this line and the excellent classical details, one
different world is hidden, the world of our existence and contemporaneity.
